Welcome to NAAVA'S ART PAGES!
NAAVA, originally from South Africa, is a painter as well as an actress and writer. Her acclaimed artwork is held in private collections worldwide from Australia, Germany and South Africa to the USA. Having lived in Boston for many years, NAAVA is currently based in Manhattan.
NAAVA draws inspiration from her many travels to different countries and her interest in varying cultures. She imbues her art with her zest for life and love of the dramatic story of the human spirit. Her narrative style and a deep spiritual basis lie at the heart of her paintings as well as her performance pieces. ( Please check NAAVA's theatre site)
SOUL STORIES reflect NAAVA's appreciation for the spiritual journey. Using motifs of ladders and dark windows, these mixed media works embedded with natural objects evoke a narrative applied with a primitive aesthetic, reminiscent of cave paintings or Southwestern carvings.
WATERSCAPES explores NAAVA’s contemplation of the transformative and vital nature of water. "Water is the nurturing element of life and source of creation. I am intrigued by its reflective quality. The paintings are composed of layers of paint and wash as a reminder that while water is apparently transparent, below the surface, lakes, oceans and ponds are alive with a myriad of exquisite life forms comprising another world. These paintings serve as inspirational and meditative pieces."
MYSTIC VESSELS: These works on paper designed for use as posters, feature the image of the vessel or vase to represent the human form as container of the freely flowing creative spirit. These brightly colored paintings reflect NAAVA's love of natural settings, mythology and passion for multicultural offerings.
SPIRIT SOARING reflects Naava’s love of the freedom and play of improvisation and composition. “In these one of a kind whimsical paper collages, I arrange pieces of distinctly varied papers to form mystical and tropical paradises in which images of the free spirit can soar. I delight in creating miniature fantasy worlds of vibrant color which brighten the soul. |
